This is a device that runs credit cards. This confirms that Growler Records accepts credit cards. Not that I encourage use of them in general, but since I use them on occasion and I know that you do too, I am letting you know that I have moved beyond a strictly cash economy around these parts. The good news is: I did lots of research and this little device has one of the lowest merchant fees available. So more of your money will directly support the space and less of it supports, well, the bad guys.

@ Growler: tapes and CDs from Ethiopia! Crooning in Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia, great synth beats and a pop-sensibility that isn’t comparable! These tapes are a great grab bag experience at $5 each. They were provided by Haimanot, the proprietress of Arada restaurant (750 Santa Fe Dr), which has amazing samosas and Ethiopian honey wine (house-made!)

Lastly, regarding STACEY ROZICH, whose horn I just want to toot today: she collaborated with others to create this breathtaking video for FLEET FOXES. If the Fleet Foxes strike you as a far cry from EARTH, stylistically, watch this video in it’s entirety. Not only is this a 7-something minute long song, but it ebbs and flows through various parts, incorporating sometimes drastic changes in feel and tempo. How “stoner-metal” is that? Maybe alt-country is transitioning as a genre? Anyways, this would be epic on a big screen, run through a PA. I intend to make this happen.

The second installation of “Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light” by EARTH is just wonderful to listen to. A rainy day companion? Yes! You may have noticed that the cover has again been illustrated by the illustrious STACEY ROZICH (http://blog.staceyrozich.com/). With this album, side D of the double LP, has no music and is an etching by Ms. Rozich. Amazing how a record can be transformed into equal parts music and work of visual art. (And I still have copies available at Growler for a limited time.)

Check it out, particularly if you need a good introduction to what is “stoner metal.” Lady drummer too, which is rare, particularly in metal.
